Mobile Phone reception?

Elysian Eco Retreat prides itself on being the most secluded resort in the Whitsundays. Our goal is to allow our guests to relax completely, taking that rare opportunity to disconnect, a 'digital detox'. However, for those 'instagrammable' moments or taking time to connect with family and friends. We do have limited Telstra mobile phone coverage and Wifi is available (at the restaurant) in the lounge area. Please note, there is no phone service for Vodafone and Optus.

how do i get to Elysian?

Elysian Retreat is located in a secluded bay, accessible only via boat or helicopter. Our guests fly into either Hamilton Island or Whitsunday Coast airport (Proserpine). If you are departing from Airlie Beach, our boat transfers depart from Shute Harbour and our helicopter transfers depart from Coral Sea Marina. We are more than happy to assist in organising your transfers for you, please contact us on stay@elysianretreat.com.au to discuss your travel plans, we can discuss your options and the associated costs. We request your preferred transfers through third party operators, therefore we cannot guarantee their availability until we have received all of your details, so we do recommend reaching out to us as soon as you have made your reservation.

Helicopters are the most convenient, and spectacular, way to reach us! Helicopter transfers do come with weight restrictions, for both passengers and luggage. We will be able to assist you further once we have received your individual body weight and luggage weight. If you are traveling for an extended period of time, and you have excess luggage you will not need while staying with us, we do have the option of organising luggage storage for you. Again this will be through a third party operator, so giving us advance notice is imperative.

Boat transfers are extremely restricted due to tidal access surrounding the bay at Elysian, so they may not be possible on your travel dates. However, if you would prefer to transfer via boat and you have some flexibility in your travel dates, we can look at tidal access ahead of time. We can help you to book your stay with us, on the dates the tide will allow you to transfer by boat. For further information please take a look at our Getting Here page.

Tell us more about the whales?

Our whale season runs from July through to October each year. The whales migrate north from July onwards and then start migrating south again from September onwards. They can be seen swimming past Elysian from time to time with their newborn calves. The main type of whales we see are the Humpback Whales, ranging in length from 12–16 m (39–52 ft) and weighing around 25–30 metric tons. It's a beautiful time of year in the Whitsundays, something you don't want to miss!

Elysian Eco Retreat provides excellent service and gourmet dining while maintaining a humble, relaxed attitude. Our modest team is trained in 5-star standards, and dedicated in ensuring that you, our guest, is always our main priority. Elysian has an intimate feel, unlike other larger resorts, it is a boutique ‘barefoot' eco retreat, where you can relax and enjoy the friendly hospitality. Our wellness spa allows guests to take a step back and enjoy a complete eco-lux spa experience.

We pride ourselves not only on our sustainability, of being 100% solar powered, but our ability to harmoniously combine five star service with sustainability, demonstrating that they can be synonymous. We are honored that our five star reviews and ratings are testament to our ethos.

What star rating is Elysian?

Stinger season runs between November and May each year where stingers may be present in the ocean. We can provide guests with stinger suits to use during the stinger season. Our magnesium resort swimming pool is always a great alternative for those wishing to bathe without a concern for stingers.

There's something special to be said about each season in the Whitsundays, but here are some of our favourites;

Winter

Winter, from June to August, is one of the best times of year to visit, you will experience some of our finest weather with balmy nights and comfortable days  (around 25 degrees). Perfect for swimming in the ocean  (around 21 degrees). You'll also have the opportunity to spot the majestic humpback whales during their migration.

Spring

Spring, from September through October, is the peak season with clear skies, sunny weather and low humidity.  The light winds make for perfect conditions for snorkelling and diving.

Summer

Summer, from December to March, brings higher temperatures (around 30 degrees).  The ocean is warm (around 28 degrees), with tropical rainfall. Perfect weather for lazy days in the hammock, by the pool and enjoying your favourite cocktail. It's also a beautiful time of year to walk or hike, as the rainfall brings out the best in the flora and fauna.

Autumn

Lastly, Autumn, from April to May.  This is the season to enjoy a quieter Whitsundays, with cooling temperatures and the last of the rainfall.  Perhaps a lovely time of year if you wanted to visit Whitehaven Beach without the crowds.
